Updated: Jun 26, 2022

If you are looking for a quality dance program in the south, the University of South Carolina (USC of the east coast) is worth a look. USC is a comprehensive, large public university located on a 265-acre campus in Columbia, South Carolina (pop 134,000) in the state's capital. USC has a marine campus about three hours away. USC is about two hours from the beaches near Charleston and equally close to the mountains of North Carolina.

The dance program is nationally recognized, well established, and accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD). USC's dance program has a ballet/contemporary/modern focus. Students can earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance with a concentration in either Performance and Choreography or Dance Education with a

K-12 Certification. The dance program supports students that want to double major or minor in addition to completing their BA degree.

The USC Bachelor of Arts in Dance program requires acceptance to the USC and acceptance to the dance program by audition. The USC Department of Theatre and Dance offers dance scholarships and out of state tuition reduction based on academic qualification and dance technical ability. The scholarship information and eligibility criteria can be found here: https://sc.edu/study/colleges_schools/artsandsciences/theatre_and_dance/dance/scholarships/index.php

In the video below, USC class of 2022 students, Lydia and Logan Acker, talk about their experiences as part of the USC dance program. The Acker sisters discuss their daily schedules, performance opportunities, and their favorite experiences while at the University of South Carolina.
